Welcome to the Ukrainian Art site which features the artwork of Adrienne Shymansky Jenkins. Adrienne is a Canadian born artist with a strong Ukrainian heritage, which she portrays in the pieces that she creates. Other artworks created by the artist can be viewed under the vaious Portfolio headings on this website. Adrienne received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 1999. She enjoys working in both two and three dimensional media.

An active participant in the Calgary art scene, Adrienne's work has received local media coverage in both print and television and her pieces reside in a number of private and public collections. Her work has been featured in solo and group shows, ranging from the casual to juried exhibitions.

As well as being an active artist, Adrienne still finds time to teach. Her teaching includes school residencies with the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Artist in School Residency Programs throughout Alberta and also with the Alberta College of Art and Design, through Extended Studies adult programs.

Dance

"Dance" is Adrienne's latest piece.

"Dance" is a bronze sculpture capturing the last fleeting moment of a Ukrainian folk dance with dancers clad in traditional costumes. The detailed bronze depicts the style of clothing associated with the Ukrainian culture from the elaborate headpiece to the flowered shirt worn by the male dancer. Details such as the petals in the colorful floral headpiece with flowing ribbons, beads in the necklace, elaborate emobroidary in the male dancer's shirt, red boots and layered clothing have been captured in the bronze piece.

Cast in pure bronze using the lost wax method it measures 14" x 8" x 9" and is available from Adrienne as a limited edition casting of fifteen. To see more images of "Dance" be sure to visit the sculpture section of her portfolio.

Giclée Prints
